Our story started with a group of parents, passionate about their children being educated in the way that children learn best – through play, discovery and experience – trying to figure out what to do as their children neared the end of their preschool years. They wanted their children to experience hands-on, messy, project-based, experiential learning; where play, especially outdoor play, was valued as a learning tool. They also sought an educational model that would allow them to be involved in their children’s academic career, both inside and outside of the classroom. And thus, in 2014 Redwood Cooperative School was born.

We have clearly seen, through our exponential growth over the years, that others in Lexington and surrounding areas also value this rich educational model and philosophy.

To accommodate this rate of growth, beginning with only eight students and now accepting over 160 for the 2020-2021 school year, we have moved to a large school building, increased our faculty and staff and hired a Head of School.  We continue to maintain our cooperative structure and involve families in every aspect of our school community.
