About your K/1 teachers:

Bonnie McKay, Lead Teacher

Mrs. McKay

Bonnie McKay has been a Kindergarten and 1st Grade lead teacher at Ashland Elementary since 2012. Before that, she was a Pre-K teacher at the Centenary School for several years.  Bonnie holds a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education, as well as a Kentucky Teacher Certification K-5, and will complete her Masters in Literacy Specialty during the 2018/19 school year. As an Elementary Teacher, Mrs. McKay was able to help her students achieve academic success, but that is not the primary way she measures her impact as a teacher. Rather, she measures her impact by the relationships she has been able to build with her students and their families. She will be a great addition to our cooperative school where our classrooms function like teams and our community feels like family.

Rebecca Young, Assistant Teacher

Mrs. Young

Rebecca Young holds both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Elementary Education and has been an assistant teacher, lead teacher, substitute teacher and paraeducator over the past 19 years. During the past three years, she has been a paraedicator and assistant teacher at Ashland Elementary and has even teamed up with Bonnie McKay in her Kindergarten classroom. Her success in the classroom has been achieved by being able to thrive in both team teaching and individual classroom management. Mrs. Young believes that a fun and successful classroom experience is the foundation for a lifetime of enthusiastic learning.
